Centre for Computer Engineering Studies (CCES)

CCES was established in the early nineties as the Computer Engineering Division in the Department of Electrical Engineering, with the main role of supporting the various programmes offered by the department. Later, in Aug 1999, it was renamed to the Department of Computer Engineering in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, commemorating the inauguration of the institute as a university. In 2008, it was renamed the Centre for Computer Engineering Studies, and there after devoted to fulfilling the national demand for electronic and computer engineering professionals. The centre aims to continuously elevate the knowledge and experience of the faculty members in teaching and research in order to produce high quality research and graduates.

 

Research

Among our objectives is to produce electronic and computer engineers who are technically competent as well as equipped with the essential soft skills.The centre qualified and experienced lecturers of different levels whose research interest covers diverse areas of computer engineering including:

  • Network Security and Trusted Computing
  • Security, Trust, & Privacy (STP) - Information Security and Trusted Infrastructures Laboratory (InSTIL)

 

InSTIL research works consist of multiple research grants and projects. Our research activities are focus in multiple areas that are related to Security, Trust and Privacy. The InSTIL Lab has received many funds and requires a postgrad student to assist in the research activities.

UITM FKE Cisco Networking Academy


Cisco Network Academy represents Industry and Academia alliance with focus on human capital development. The partnership evolves strategic private and public sector collaboration including government institutions and non-profit organizations. The purpose of this cooperation is to enhance education quality and career opportunities as well as to provide the growing number of qualified experts, alignment with demand in the ICT industry.

Established in 2001, Cisco Academy in the Faculty of Electrical Engineering was the first Cisco Regional Academy in Malaysia. Since then the academy has trained over 200 CCNA instructors and more than 1000 students in networking. The CISCO Network Academy Program is a comprehensive e-learning program established by CISCO Systems. This hands-on approach encouraged development of advanced and practical networking skills in a range of courses in students studying in schools, colleges, universities and individuals seeking professional development. The Cisco academy program such as CCNA and CCNA Security have been incorporated into our undergraduate courses and more recently CCNP program has been added to some of the taught masters courses.

Today, UiTM FKE is a certified Cisco Academy (CA), an Academy Support Centre (ASC) and an Instructor Training Centre (ITC). The role of the Academy Support Center (ASC) is to provide support to other Cisco academies, stimulates the foundation of new academies and promotes the participation in training programs. UiTM FKE ASC has promoted the growth of Cisco Academies in Malaysia and has trained the most number of CCNA Instructors in Malaysia including universities, colleges and government agencies. It is currently providing support to more than 70 cisco academies in Malaysia. Currenly, Malaysia is ranked first in Asia Pacific for student growth with year on year growth of 15%. 2nd consecutive double digit growth year.

CompTIA Authorized Academy Partner 

The Faculty of Electrical Engineering UiTM became the first CompTIA Authorized Academy Partner for public university in Malaysia in May 2015. As a CompTIA Academy Partner, the faculty will receive incentives and resources to support the acquisition of the knowledge and skills necessary for important industry IT credentials. The CompTIA Academy Partner Program provides generous exam voucher discounts, access to learning content for instructors and students, and robust administrator tools and resources to support the academy and prepare students for IT-related job roles.
On 13 August 2015, the faculty received the visit of two CompTIA executives, Mr John McGlinchey, Senior Vice President, Global Business Development LLC of CompTIA Certifications, USA and Mr Graham Hunter, Vice President, Europe and Middle East of CompTIA UK Ltd accompanied by Ms Jean Tang, Country Manager of CompTIA Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore. During the visit they were briefed on the background of UiTM as well as the faculty and they shared some experiences of CompTIA's certification program implementations throughout the world. They also took a look at the laboratory designated for the CompTIA Academy Partner program at the end of the visit.

The first activity of our CompTIA Academy Partner program was the instructor training for CompTIA Cloud+ and CompTIA Mobility+ certifications. The training will be from was held from 17 to 21 August 2015 at the CCNA Laboratory, Faculty of Electrical Engineering. The trainer provided by CompTIA was Dr Desmond Alexander, CEO of Foresec Academy who has more than 20 years experience in information security.
