The IID FKE competition is an annual event organized by the Faculty of Electrical Engineering since 2009. Every year, IID FKE has received encouraging number of participations, which we have seen various inventions and innovations have been presented by the faculty members. The main aim of IID FKE competition is to select the best potential projects to represent the faculty to the esteemed design and innovation competitions such as IIDEX, UiTM, IENA, MTE and PECIPTA in future.
This year, the Research and Innovation Unit is keen to continue this legacy by organizing the IID FKE 2019, the tenth competition series, to preserve the world-class research culture at this faculty. This time, it has received 63 entries from various research areas at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Universiti Teknologi MARA, Shah Alam. This year, the theme for IID 2019 is “Innovation for Sustainable Environment”. The competition has encouraged the researchers to highlight their research novelties and innovation ideas in their respective working areas. At the same time, it has exposed them with the experience of delivering their research findings to the industry and other higher institutional panels. Through this platform, the efforts of these researchers in producing the successful outcomes are appreciated.
A bit of difference this year, there are three categories of innovation that are, Science and Technology Innovation Award, Education Innovation Award and Social Innovation Award. This initiative gives more opportunities to the faculty members and broaden the research area that is impactful to the education, science and technology as well as society. A project, led by Dr. Mohamad Hafiz Mamat, with the title of “The Development of Pristine NiO Nanosheets Arrays By Novel Solution Immersion Method” was announced as the the winner of the Diamond Award in IID FKE 2019. The same project also has won the Industrial Choice Award and the Best Sci-Tech Innovation Award. On the other hand, the Best Social Innovation Award was won by the team led by Ir Dr Norashikin M Thamrin with the project title of “Smart IoT System for Sustainable Water Quality Management in Selangor”. For the Best Education Innovation Award, it was won by Mrs Wan Noraishah Wan Abdul Munim and her team with the title of “Post-Fault Tolerant of Symmetrical Five, Six, Seven & Nine-Phase Induction Machine Under Open Circuit Fault with Single and Two Isolated Neutral Points Using Graphical User Interface”. This year, IID FKE 2019 has offered 20 places for Gold Award, 20 Silver Award and 23 Bronze Award. Hopefully, IID can further empower the faculty management to unleash the research talents among the members and flourish them internationally.
